Clash of the titans: Ostapenko defeats Tauson in hard-fought match
Ostapenko's powerful play triumphs over Tauson's steady game
Jelena Ostapenko sailed into the third round of Roland Garros 2024 after a hard-fought 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory over Clara Tauson on Monday. The match, which lasted two hours and 15 minutes, featured some intense rallies and thrilling exchanges.
Ostapenko's aggressive approach proved too much for Tauson
Ostapenko, known for her aggressive play, took control of the match from the start. She unleashed powerful groundstrokes and forced Tauson to play on the back foot for much of the first set. Ostapenko's powerful serve also proved to be a valuable weapon, as she won 70% of her first serve points and fired down five aces.
Tauson, however, did not go down without a fight. The Danish player displayed impressive court coverage and resilience, fighting back to win the second set and level the match. However, in the deciding set, Ostapenko's power and consistency proved too much for Tauson to handle.
With this victory, Ostapenko advances to the third round, where she will face a tough test against former champion Simona Halep.
